As parents, hearing the doctor's prognosis and realizing that your child is on the spectrum can be quite challenging. If I have to share just one comforting thought that has helped our family to keep focused on the future, it is that you are not alone. Millions of families around the world support loved ones with autism every single day and you will too.

As a Mother who has experienced this personally, I know that hearing this news for the first time can make you feel a whole lot of emotions and it's only natural to feel that sense of caution and perhaps even worry about the road ahead.

At a time when you're asking yourself a million questions about the past, present and future, it's important to take a moment. Break it down starting by being kind to yourself and focusing on how to cope with this news that has just changed lives.

Balance the big picture

Even if you had suspicions that your child had some degree of autism, we know that processing it can still be hard. Pausing to consider the bigger picture and that your child is physically healthy and surrounded by people who care and love them really helps.

Connect with other parents of children with ASD
It can be a huge help speaking to others who've already been there. Talk to parents who already walked the path you're now starting. Most people are very supportive and you'll find empowerment, resilience and hope.

Think practically

It's best to focus on what you can do now that you've learned your child has ASD. And the positive here is that there's a lot you can do. That's why we wanted to create this space to help you and your child achieve your full potential.

Have a positive outlook
Positive thinking is a major contributor to success. Instead of focusing on the things that didn’t work out the way you thought they would, remind yourself of all the things that did. Take comfort in how you are showing up for your child to give them the best future you possibly can.
